jQuery Meetups

First shot at a jQuery Montreal meetup

Welcome All!

I see we are now 6 - pretty small compared to the other big north American cities, but a decent amount IMO to try scheduling the first get-together on March 25th.

We'd preferably meet downtown around coffee or drinks after work.

What's everyone's opinion?

You should be made aware of JS-Montreal. Though there are no meetups this month because of Confoo we will be meeting again next month.

A huge majority of JS-Montrealers are using jQuery and hanging out with people who use other frameworks is also a great opportunity to learn.

If Thursday doesn't work for you Stephane, how about the Wednesday right before? What does everyone else think about that?

Gary, thanks for dropping by - will keep an eye on js-montreal - it's always good to hangout like you say w/ people of other frameworks. Curious to know how many you guys are at the meetups? It's just that when you say the huge majority uses jQuery, makes me feel there are like 50+ people, and if that's the case would also be nice to cross-promote to them the Montreal jQuery only group. Just a thought, let me know what you think :)

Finally, speaking of Confoo, anyone attending?

My work load at the university will be keeping me pretty busy until mid-april so although I appreciate the gesture, I don't want the schedule to be changed if I'm not sure that I'll be able to attend anyway.

Unless you already have a talk with slides and everything scheduled for this meeting, may I suggest a more casual first meetup, say on a Friday night ? FooBarBeer has drawn quite a few people interested in ConFoo over to Ste-Elisabeth and I'm sure we could attract a few more players this way : )

I've been a volunteer for the annual PHP Québec conferences for the past three years and I will again be part of the crew for ConFoo all week. I'll be one of the guys wearing a red ConFoo t-shirt.

Sure, I don't mind. I definitely don't have any slides or talks scheduled, like the initial post says: "a first get-together".

So Friday the 26th?

We're planning a "What jQuery Sucks At" talk at JS-Montreal if it can fit with my vacation schedule. You guys would love it! :-D
